Job Title: City Lead
Location: Various cities & regions in Southern Ontario
Job Type: Volunteer (Advocacy & Leadership)
Application Deadline: Rolling review until all positions are filled
Time Commitment: Flexible, with regular meetings & advocacy activities
Commit at least 4 hours monthly.
Collaborate with officials and transit agencies for rider-focused improvements.
Track local transit developments and policies.
Engage riders through surveys, consultations, social media, and events.
Build relationships with community groups and businesses for advocacy.
Participate in public consultations and deputations to amplify riders’ voices.
Lead campaigns on transit issues like service expansion and accessibility.
Contribute to MTSO’s public statements and reports.
Work with MTSO leadership to align local advocacy with broader strategies.
Attend team meetings for updates and coordination.
Manage onboarding and coordination of volunteers.
Must agree to privacy/confidentiality agreement.
Committed to enhancing public transit for all riders.
Strong communication skills for engaging with various stakeholders.
Capable of organizing advocacy campaigns and outreach initiatives.
Experience in community organizing or policy engagement is beneficial.
Active transit user with an understanding of rider challenges.
Must live, work or study in the city indicated on the application.
Be a key advocate for transit riders in your city.
Gain experience in policy advocacy, volunteer coordination, and community organizing.
Work with a network of passionate transit advocates across Southern Ontario.

As a City Lead, you will oversee MTSO's local operations in your designated city. Your role includes advocating for transit policies relevant to your jurisdiction while actively engaging with riders to understand their needs and concerns. You will also connect with key stakeholders who are working to improve the transit network for local residents.
Volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of our organization, but City and Regional Leads are the vital links that shape MTSO’s policies, reports, and advocacy efforts.
Local Advocacy: Ensuring that transit policies and improvements address the specific needs of riders in their city.
Community Engagement: Connecting with transit users, gathering feedback, and amplifying their concerns.
Service Updates & Consultations: Monitoring changes to local transit services, participating in public consultations, and advocating for improvements directly with municipal transit agencies.
